The Estate

The past

Quinta do Boição was built in 1962. In 1988 it was purchased by a Madeiran couple, passionate about horse riding and nature, who wanted to enjoy the space to gather family and friends in a peaceful environment. With their entrepreneurial spirit, the couple transformed the estate into a rural tourism destination, as it was only used sporadically by themselves. However, in 1992, they had their first granddaughter and by the year 2000 they already had 8 small grandchildren who often met at the estate, so they chose to abandon the tourism project and enjoy the house with their family. More than 20 years later, the grandchildren are all grown up and decided to open the estate’s doors for everybody, renaming the mansion to something meaningful - a Casa dos Avós (the Grandparents' House) - and starting refurbishment work to make the estate one of the top destinations of rural accommodation and events in the region.

The present

Quinta do Boição has an area of 30.000m2, surrounded by valleys and vineyards of one of the largest Portuguese Wine Producers, ENOPORT Wines. The estate has a mansion - A Casa dos Avós (the Grandparents' House) - with 3 bedrooms and 1 suite, and 3 private houses. At Casa dos Avós you will find a games room with a pool and ping pong table, as well as a shared swimming pool and a beautiful garden. In addition to this, the estate has an outdoor and indoor riding arena; exterior and interior stables; a tennis court; large gardens, ideal for picnics, games or exercise; and an event venue for up to 120 people, with an outdoor tent and a garden. All rooms & houses have been recently refurbished and come with a private TV, air conditioning / heating, free Wi-Fi, sheets, towels and basic toiletries. Guests are welcome to use all of the shared facilities and enjoy a homemade breakfast, served every morning at Casa dos Avós.
